The Monaco Wedding
On April 19, 1956 Grace and Rainier held their church wedding at St. Nicholas Cathedral. It was packed with 600 people, and another 30 million around the world watched on television. People celebrated on the streets of Monaco with dancing, fireworks, banners, and poems. They were legally married on April 18, 1956 in a small ceremony. The wedding celebration lasted two days. For the church wedding, Grace wore an ivory gown with 300 yards of lace and 150 yards of silk.
